The university and wine town Geisenheim with its districts Marienthal and Johannisberg lies amid the cultural, wine and Rhine region of the Rheingau. Today, Geisenheim is the region`s modern centre. The historic town centre is framed by Schönborn Palace, Rheingau Cathedral and Villa Monrepos, to name just a few cultural-historical buildings.
Each July, the Lindenfest (Linden Tree Festival) is celebrated underneath the 700-year-old Geisenheim linden tree in the town centre. Geisenheim was first mentioned in records in 772.
And Marienthal, where we offer you a very quiet and comfortable and cosy holiday flat for 2 - 3 guests, is a pilgrimage site romantically situated between vineyards and woods and draws numerous pilgrims each year. Johannisberg, the birthplace of the Spätlese (late harvest), is home of the Rheingau`s architectural gems and cultural heritage sites - Johannisberg Palace.
The offer of leisure-time-activity in Geiseheim has a very wide range. Walking tours trough the vineyard and forest is very nice and possible on good roads. Tours by bike or SEGWAY are also interesting.
In our district Marienthal you`ll find for your support a store with everydays` food, a tennis restaurant, several winerestaurants, a little federal post office and a money machine, all reachable within a short walking distance.
Spend nice days in the valley of the Rhine with its historical castles and palaces, the Rheingau, also participate the RheingauMusikFestival and be a gourmet in farmhouses in the midst of beautiful vineyards and like to taste the Rheingauer wine. Rüdesheim, beginning of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley belongs to the Upper Middle Rhine World Heritage Site and is reachable after a distance of approx. about 4 mi.
